Our Energy Servers™ are among the most efficient energy generators on the planet; providing for significantly reduced electricity costs and dramatically lower greenhouse gas emissions. By generating power on-site, where it is consumed, Bloom Energy offers increased electrical reliability and improved energy security, providing a clear path to energy independence.
Founded in 2001, Bloom Energy is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.
Bloom Energy’s Solution
Built with our patented solid oxide fuel cell technology, Bloom's Energy Server™ is a new class of distributed power generator, producing clean, reliable, affordable electricity at the customer site.
Fuel cells are devices that convert fuel into electricity through a clean electro-chemical process rather than dirty combustion. They are like batteries except that they always run. Our particular type of fuel cell technology is different than legacy "hydrogen" fuel cells in three main ways:
1. Low cost materials – our cells use a common sand-like powder instead of precious metals like platinum or corrosive materials like acids.
2. High electrical efficiency – we can convert fuel into electricity at nearly twice the
rate of some legacy technologies
3. Fuel flexibility – our systems are capable of using either renewable or fossil fuels
Each Bloom Energy Server provides 200kW of power, enough to meet the baseload needs of 160 average homes or an office building... day and night, in roughly the footprint of a standard parking space. For more power simply add more energy servers.

Advanced Lighting Technologies Inc. (ALT), is an early-stage start-up company located in Santa Clara, CA that has developed breakthrough AC power supply (driver) technology for LED lamps which has the potential to revolutionize the LED lighting market. The founders and management team are made up of experienced executives from the power management, semiconductor and lighting industries. ALT is seeking investment funding to support its commercial launch and is looking to establish business partnerships with semiconductor and lighting companies to bring these new products to market on a global basis.

ALT’s Solution:
ALT has developed a single chip AC LED lamp driver – with no cap action, coils or EMI filters; that has up to 80% lower cost, 5 times longer life, >90% efficiency and >0.95 power factor; and allows the LED lamps to be fully dimmable, have no visible flicker and be rated for operating temperatures up to 150 degrees C. ALT’s driver will be fully integrated into 8 pin and 16 pin ASIC chips, and can eventually lead to development of a singly LED light engine system by embedding the ALT driver chip an LED array chip, creating the “The Ultimate Lighting Device” in the industry. ALT’s driver technology may be the first of its kind in the world and hold the potential to become ubiquitous in the global LED lamp market.
Verdigris Technologies, a Silicon-Valley based Clean Tech startup company, was founded in 2010 by Mark Chung and Jonathan Chu. The Verdigris team has expertise in signal processing, machine learning, and cellular sensor networks. Verdigris’ vision of reducing global energy demand with its patented technology solution has enabled Verdigris to attract and assemble a notable team of engineers, computer scientists, and energy experts from leading universities such as Stanford, Berkeley, CMU, MIT as well as seasoned influential advisers from government, academia, and industry for their board.
Verdigris’ Energy.AI is a comprehensive hardware/ software platform with the groundbreaking ability to measure any building’s electricity use down to a specific appliance- all from the circuit panel. Energy.AI can simultaneously and accurately measure as many as a thousand different devices from each single sensor node. Our platform is built on the premise that every appliance has a unique energy signature. Energy.AI samples energy data using an array of inductive coils and a voltage sensor tethered to the circuit panel of a building. From this single point of measurement, we execute the disaggregation and analysis of the electrical signatures in the cloud in order to reduce the cost of hardware deployment and take advantage of centralized data aggregation and computation. Energy.AI has been tested and proven to achieve unprecedented energy data granularity from individual plug-loads: from 1500-ton chiller plants and halide lighting systems to individual iPhone chargers. Currently, Verdigris has partnered with NASA to install our innovative product, Energy.AI, as part of the induction of NASA’s newly dedicated high-performance building, N232, also known as Sustainability Base, that can be used to conduct experiments for sustainable technologies.

Solution: Lithium/Air Battery Project (Battery 500)
The 2009 Almaden Institute, Scalable Energy Storage: Beyond Lithium Ion, has inspired the formation of a new project focused on Lithium/Air Rechargeable Batteries. The goal is to create a powerful new battery for electric cars that is as good as gasoline, gets 500 miles/800 km range per charge, and is a total electric drive system comparable in size. A lightweight 'air-cathode' replaces heavy metal-oxide cathodes of today and has an encapsulated Lithium metal anode.
This is a very high risk/very high reward, long horizon project and a joint research effort with National Labs and commercial partners. If successful, such batteries could dramatically reduce oil dependency.
