Communities of Practice

Sharing what works and what doesn’t

We want you to succeed. SSV creates and supports communities of practice for executives (EcoCouncil), implementers and crusaders (Sustainability Teams), cities (Climate Coaching) and government agencies (Environmentally Preferred Purchasing). The following is a basic overview of each program. More information may be found by clicking the links on the left of this page.

EcoCouncil

The SSV EcoCouncil provides a forum for senior level managers and executives of our Sustaining Partners to share sustainability and climate change strategies.

As a member of the EcoCouncil, you can enhance your brand and position your organization among partners and customers as a leader in sustainability and climate change. Participation in exclusive EcoCouncil Salons provide you with

  • Access to thought leaders and cutting edge strategies on sustainability
  • Insight on climate science and policy and their impact on business and local government
  • Idea exchange among other senior executives about their approaches to sustainability and catalyzing the clean energy economy

Sustainability Leaders Forum

Sustainability leaders are the employees and employee volunteers who help identify and implement specific improvements to make their organizations operate in a more sustainable fashion. SSV regularly convenes Sustainability Team Leaders (formerly called Green Team Leaders) to share experiences and to identify common challenges and solutions.

Climate Coaching for Local Governments

Group coaching is offered at no charge to help city staff designated to write and implement their climate action plans. As part of Sustainable Silicon Valley’s services for the professional development of sustainability personnel, climate change consultants are coaching two groups of local government climate change coordinators. The program enables peers to share their challenges, solutions and lessons learned, and to develop a common approach to shared problems. Coaching provides strategic planning and change management guidance, suggests relevant resources, and documents the process so it can benefit others. The program is offered at no charge to SSV partners.

Environmentally Preferred Purchasing (EPP) for Government Agencies

Sustainability champions across a range of local government agencies joined forces to build a web-based tool for sharing information about environmentally preferable purchasing policies and specifications.  Using this tool, government agencies can aggregate purchasing power to get more competitive prices on environmentally friendly items such as low-VOC paint, Energy Star office equipment, greener building materials and other items.

Educational Forums

Throughout the year, SSV sponsors meetings and forums on a variety of energy, environmental and sustainable topics to keep you in the know. Check the SSV Calendar for upcoming events.
