“Get Yer Fresh Fish Here!”

If you are looking for a super easy way to eat sustainably and locally caught fish (“Serving all the species we should eat and none that we shouldn’t”), then Fishmonger Don is your answer.

What makes Fishmonger Don’s seafood extraordinary is their commitment to traceable food. Making the fishing process transparent to any subscriber not only demonstrates their commitment to sustainable eating but also encourages their readers and eaters to be connected to their food.

Fishmonger Don himself has been invested in locally buying and selling seafood for over a decade. And with all of his experience has made it his mission to provide high quality yet highly sustainable seafood to the Bay Area community: “I firmly believe we should avoid the grocery store and support our local fisheries and fishmongers. There are a bunch of services like mine that people can use locally. Find a good fit, avoid grocers, and eat the best seafood! Easy, win win stuff!”

You get your hands on this fresh fish by signing up for the weekly newsletter, and every Friday/Saturday you will receive a menu of the catches of the week that will let you know what fish you can buy, where it was caught and how it was caught. Then that Saturday/Sunday, The Fishmonger Don people will deliver your fresh selections to you. They only occasionally sell 2 imports: Canadian specialty shellfish and Ora King salmon, the first farm raised salmon to receive a green rating from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch.

You can get the Fishmonger Don experience either by signing up for the weekly newsletter or by appearing at one of his exquisite pop-up meals. The website also has some essential, tried-and-true fish recipes.

Real Man Eats Real Sustainable Fish

Local Sustainable Lifer/Investigative Reporter/Food-Connoisseur Dennis Murphy ordered Fishmonger Don’s salmon, halibut and poke, reporting back to the Sustainable Life family with these tasting notes:

One word: pristine.

Both the king salmon and halibut were very fresh, vibrant. Great color. Well filleted. Among the best-ever fish I have encountered. The poke was extraordinary, very nicely spiced. As good or better as anything that I have had in Hawaii. I have been waiting for a post-pandemic social event to crack open the famous McFarland Ranch Trout, smoked, canned in small batches and packed in EVOO, but I’m now thinking now of building a meal around it.

A Note on Pricing….This is pretty much sashimi-grade everthing, so it will never be the lowest cost option considering the sourcing, the loving treatment and the delivery to your door. This is a classic case of getting what you pay for, great value at a fair price. It is worth susbcribing to the weekly Fishmonger Don email for the entertainment value of cheerful fish talk and beautiful photo treatments of super fresh seafood. Watch out for the occasional sale and supplement your order with tasty shelf-stable stuff like trout and special sauces. Definitely worth a try.
